Job Summary:

The Collection Manager is responsible for overseeing the collections process, ensuring timely collection of outstanding debts, and managing a team of collection agents. This role involves developing and implementing effective collection strategies, maintaining relationships with clients, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The Collection Manager will also analyze collection data and report on performance metrics to drive continuous improvement.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Collections Oversight:
    • Manage the day-to-day operations of the collections department, including supervision of collection agents.
    • Develop and implement collection strategies to maximize recovery of outstanding debts.
    • Monitor collection efforts to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Team Management:
    • Recruit, train, and mentor collection staff to enhance performance and achieve collection goals.
    • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members.
    • Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork and high standards of service.

  • Client Relations:
    • Build and maintain relationships with clients to facilitate timely payment of outstanding accounts.
    • Negotiate payment plans and settlements as appropriate to resolve overdue accounts.
    • Address client inquiries and concerns related to collections in a professional manner.

  • Data Analysis and Reporting:
    • Analyze collection data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
    • Prepare regular reports on collection performance, including recovery rates and aging accounts.
    • Use data insights to adjust collection strategies and improve overall performance.

  • Compliance and Risk Management:
    • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and legal requirements related to collections.
    • Identify and mitigate risks associated with the collections process.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience in collections management or a related field, with a strong understanding of collection processes.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Proficiency in using collections software and financial management systems.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in the financial services, credit, or collections industries.
  • Familiarity with compliance regulations related to debt collection (e.g., FDCPA, FCRA).
  • Certification in collections or credit management (e.g., CBA, CCF).
